Colorado Rockies’ Troy Tulowitzki heads to desert…

By Troy E. Renck The Denver Post

LAS VEGAS –Troy Tulowitzki wakes up to baseball. His glove, the one that has won gold the past two seasons, sits on the glass kitchen table. His bat leans against the counter, calling him to swing.

Even his two pet boxers, Ripken and Rawlings, provide reminders of the sport, either by name or their barks for him to toss them a ball across the black-and-white checked tile floor.

Sore hip keeps Tulo out of lineup

Updated Sep 9, 2011 9:23 PM ET

DENVER (AP)

Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was not in the lineup Friday due to soreness in his left hip.

He said he wasn’t sure how the soreness developed, but said the hip bothered him when he took swings in the indoor batting cage before Friday night’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.

Tulowitzki said he anticipated being able to play Saturday. Manager Jim Tracy said, ”We’re hopeful that it’s just maybe a day, maybe a day or so. I’m not certain on the amount of time.”

Chris Nelson was activated Friday and was scheduled to start in place of Tulowitzki at shorstop. Nelson was recalled Tuesday from Triple-A Colorado Springs but was nursing a bruised left heel when he returned to the Rockies.
