Rockies recall Pacheco, Rosario Minor Leagues

The Colorado Rockies have promoted infielder Jordan Pacheco and right-hander Jim Miller from Triple-A Colorado Springs, and brought up catcher Wilin Rosario from Double-A Tulsa.

Pacheco and Rosario are slated to make their major league debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.

Pacheco hit .278 with 50 RBIs in 97 games for Colorado Springs. Rosario hit .249 with 21 homers and 48 RBIs in 102 games for Tulsa. Miller went 8-5 with a 5.25 ERA in 65 games for the Sky Sox.

The Rockies recalled Pacheco and Rosario, and selected Miller’s contract.

Infielder Jonathan Herrera (right index finger fracture) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Miller on the 40-man roster.

Rockies send CarGo to Sky Sox for rehab

DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies are sending outfielder Carlos Gonzalez to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox for a rehabilitation assignment.

The team said Gonzalez would play for the Sky Sox for their three-game series against the Nashville Sounds. The series was scheduled to start Wednesday but was postponed by rain until Thursday.

Last year’s National League batting champ has been on the 15-day disabled list since July 22 with a right wrist strain. He took a round of batting practice before Tuesday’s game at Coors Field for the first time since being injured.

Before his first trip to the DL, Gonzalez was hitting .289 with 15 homers, 56 RBIs, 63 runs and 16 stolen bases.

Jason Giambi Injury Leads To DL Trip

Read More: Mike Jacobs (1B – COL), Jason Giambi (1B – COL), Colorado Rockies

The Colorado Rockies will be down a man during Tuesday night’s game with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jason Giambi injured his left quad while running out a play in the top of the ninth inning during Tuesday’s game. Clearly in pain, he left the game and had Aaron Cook come in to pinch-run for him. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list to help him recover.

No corresponding move was announced, so the Rockies will play with just 24 men in this game. Mike Jacobs, currently in Triple-A Colorado Springs, is a possible call-up. He is hitting .296 with an .891 OPS and 18 homers so far this season.

Giambi has hit 10 home runs this season, including three in one May game. Several teams, notably the Phillies, have inquired about his availability. This injury may put an end to any trade talks.

Rockies put Giambi on DL

LOS ANGELES (AP)—The Colorado Rockies placed five-time All-Star Jason
Giambi(notes)
on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, a day after he strained his left
quad running to first base in a loss to the Dodgers.

This is the fifth time the 17-year veteran has been on the disabled list and
the first since 2009 with Oakland, when he missed 2 1/2 weeks because of a strained
right quad.

Giambi, the AL MVP in 2000 with the Athletics, has 425 career homers, one
from tying Billy Williams for 42nd place on the all-time list.

Giambi accepted his role as a part-time player with the Rockies and was
re-signed to a minor league deal in January after batting .244 with six homers
and 35 RBIs in 87 games. This season, he is hitting .260 with 10 homers and 24
RBIs in 48 games.

Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez Leaves Game With Wrist…

Read More: Carlos Gonzalez (LF – COL), Colorado Rockies

Colorado Rockies star outfielder Carlos Gonzalez has apparently reinjured his wrist during the fifth inning of the series finale against the Atlanta Braves.

Gonzalez was having a good game, as he started the game with a leadoff homerun in the first inning, but apparently reinjured the wrist that was bruised on the road trip before the All Star Break. Instead of going onto the Disabled List to completely heal, Gonzalez has been taking cortisone shots to relieve some pain.

While it’s not certain what exactly happened (it doesn’t appear that he struck the wrist with the bat), pain during the middle of a swing and with a previous injury is not a good sign for Gonzalez’s health going forward. If he’s injured for a lengthy period of time, the Rockies’ slim chances of making a run at the playoffs become very slim.

If Gonzalez does go onto the 15 day DL, AAA outfielder Cole Garner could make his third appearance in the majors this season. Another alternative is top prospect Tim Wheeler, who is enjoying a breakout season with the AA Tulsa Drillers and was already a favorite for a September callup.

DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies recalled outfielder Dexter Fowler from Triple A on Friday and inserted him at the top of the lineup playing centerfield against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Rockies also purchased the contract of Eliezer Alfonzo from Colorado Springs. Alfonzo hit .319 with 12 home runs and 37 RBIs for the Sky Sox.

Colorado optioned catcher Matt Pagnozzi and outfielder Cole Garner to club’s top farm club and transferred outfielder Charlie Blackmon to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Alfonzo on the 40-man roster.
