The Florida Marlins’ Anibal Sanchez almost threw his second career no-hitter on Friday night, but Colorado Rockies outfielder Dexter Fowler came through with a single to start the top of the ninth, breaking up the no-hitter. But instead of threatening in the ninth, Jonathan Herrera flied out to left field and then Dexter Fowler was doubled off first base. Carlos Gonzalez ended the game with a ground out to first. Sanchez finished with a one-hitter and nine strikeouts.

Sanchez’s toughest inning came in the first. He started the game with a leadoff walk to Dexter Fowler and then was charged with a run when Gaby Sanchez failed to make the catch on a Troy Tulowitzki ground out. Fowler reached base in three of his four plate appearances (2 BB, 1 H), while Tulowitzki on the error and Helton on a walk in the seventh were the other base runners.

Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin allowed leadoff home runs in the first and third innings to Chris Coghlan and Gaby Sanchez in the first and third innings, respectively. In the second inning, Anibal Sanchez had a sac fly and Coghlan drove another run in on a ground out. He left after five innings.

The Rockies’ reliever trio of Matt Belisle, Felipe Paulino and Franklin Morales held the Marlins off the board for the final three innings of the game.

The Rockies (13-6) resume this series on Saturday night at 5:10 p.m. MT. Jason Hammel will throw against Javier Vazquez.

Rockies Vs. Pirates: Greg Reynolds Serves Up Two-Run Homer, But Game Tied At Two

Read More: Jonathan Herrera (2B – COL), Carlos Gonzalez (LF – COL), Dexter Fowler (CF – COL), Colorado Rockies

Through three innings of play, the Colorado Rockies are tied, 2-2, with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Rockies got off to an early start when Dexter Fowler reached on a walk, stole second and then advanced to third on a Ryan Doumit error. With Fowler and Jonathan Herrera on first and third, Carlos Gonzalez hit into a double play that scored Fowler.

Greg Reynolds had a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the first inning for the Rockies with a ground out, a strikeout and a fly out. However, he ran into trouble in the second inning when he allowed a leadoff double to Lyle Overbay and then two batters later allowed a two-run home run to Ryan Doumit.

In the third inning, Dexter Fowler drew a two-out walk and moved to second base on a Jonathan Herrera single. Carlos Gonzalez came through again, this time with a single to center field to score Fowler and tie the game at two. In the bottom half of the inning, Greg Reynolds reached a game-total of 60-plus pitches because he allowed tow walks in the inning, but did not allow the two men on base to score.

Running low on time today, i’ll be back tomorrow hopefully with some more news.

Fowler happy to be back at Coors Field

The flight home didn't arrive until around 4 a.m. MT, but anytime a plane touches down in Denver is a good one for Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler.
