| Arizona Fall League 2011: Colorado Rockies Send… | |
By Russ Oates – Senior Editor
The 2011 Arizona Fall League rosters are coming out and the Colorado Rockies have already decided on their three position players: Nolan Arenado, Tim Wheeler and Ben Paulsen. Follow , and Like SB Nation Denver on Facebook. Aug 30, 2011 – The Colorado Rockies announced on Tuesday three of the seven players they will send to the 2011 Arizona Fall League. They are third baseman Nolan Arenado, outfielder Tim Wheeler and first baseman Ben Paulsen. They will play for the new Salt River Rafters, a team that will play at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. The Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks share the facilities there and will share this team with the Astros, the Dodgers and the Tigers. Arenado has emerged during the 2011 season as a future star for the Rockies at the hot corner. He’s hitting .297/.350/.475 with 30 doubles, 17 home runs and 113 RBI for the Hi-A Modesto Nuts. He played in the 2011 Futures Game and hit an RBI double in the game for Team USA. Wheeler found the helium this season and rose in high regard as a prospect. After hitting 12 home runs for the Nuts in 2010, Wheeler has smacked 33 this season for Double-A Tulsa. He’s hitting .292/.370/.551 for the season and has 20 stolen bases as well. His defense could still use some work, but his bat will be his way to the majors. Paulsen is also with Tulsa this season. While the .244 batting average won’t set worlds on fire, he does have 18 home runs and a solid glove at first base. Is he a possible replacement for Todd Helton at first base in a couple of years? | Rockies Vs. Diamondbacks: Aaron Cook, Rockies Take…
Read More: Aaron Cook (P – COL), Wade Miley (P – ARI), Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks, Aug 30, 2011 7:40 PM MDT The Colorado Rockies had a brief respite from losing on Sunday, but when they went to the desert on Monday for a series with the Diamondbacks, things just didn’t start off well. Alex White struggled in his second start for the Rockies and the offense was shutout for eight innings, seven by starter Daniel Hudson. The one run they managed in the 5-1 loss came on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch. Aaron Cook (3-7, 5.47) has made one previous start against the Diamondbacks this season. That game came in Arizona and it was his first win of the season. On July 22, Cook allowed four runs on a two-run home run, a triple and a single. Exiting after six innings, Cook was still the pitcher of record when the Rockies scored two run in the top of the seventh to take the lead. He struggled in his last outing, a six-run, 11-hit performance against the Houston Astros. The Rockies won that game, 7-6, on a wild pitch in the 10th inning. Arizona rookie Wade Miley (1-1, 4.50 ERA) makes just his third start in the big leagues. The lefty rookie was blasted for five runs against the Atlanta Braves in his first start, but then he rebounded with six scoreless innings against the Washington Nationals. This will be his first start at home. His fastball averages around 92 so far and he uses a slider, a curveball and a changeup to round out his repertoire. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. MT. | Daniel Hudson throws 7 shutout innings for Arizona…
The Rockies had Arizona starter Daniel Hudson (14-9) against the ropes early. In the second inning, Colorado had runners on second and third with one out and in the second had runners on first and second with two outs. Hudson pitched out of both jams and retired his final 11 batters and 12 of the final 13. “We had a chance for some momentum in the early part of the game,” Tracy said. “(Kevin) Kouzmanoff just missed in the second inning of putting three up there for us. Then we missed on the second-and-third, one-out situation after the runners tagged up. Then Daniel Hudson settled in and we weren’t able to do much offensively.” Colorado mounted one final rally in the ninth, loading the bases on a single and two hit batsmen before J.J. Putz hit Chris Iannetta with a pitch to force home Troy Tulowitzki. Putz then struck out Jason Giambi and retired Dexter Fowler on a fly ball to left the end the game. Hudson added an RBI single for the Diamondbacks, who have won 10 straight home games and nine of 13 against the Rockies. Arizona has allowed two runs or fewer in each game of the winning streak, tied with Milwaukee for the longest such run this season and one shy of the franchise record set in 2002. Hudson scattered three hits — all singles — and walked three while striking out eight over seven innings to earn his second straight win. Putz recorded his 34th save in 38 tries. The Rockies had four hits total en route to their third loss in four games. Paul Goldschmidt, Miguel Montero and John McDonald all drove in a run during Arizona’s four-run sixth inning against Rockies starter Alex White (1-1). Roberts gave the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead when he drove White’s third pitch into the stands in left for his third career leadoff home run and Arizona’s sixth this season. White walked three batters in the first but escaped further damage and then traded zeros with Hudson until the sixth. “He had a difficult time settling in but did a nice job of getting out of the first inning,” Tracy said. “The ball that Ryan Roberts hit, he completely missed his spot by the width of the plate.” Aaron Hill singled and White hit Justin Upton in the middle of the back with a fastball. Montero then singled to right, scoring Hill to make it 2-0. Goldschmidt, in the midst of a 2-for-11 skid, doubled off the wall in right to score Upton and advance Montero to third. White intentionally walked Parra to set up the double play one out later. But McDonald singled into the hole at shortstop and Hudson looped a single into left to give Arizona a 5-0 lead. Upton has been hit by pitches 15 times, second in the NL to Washington’s Danny Espinosa. White, making his second start since he was acquired by Colorado from Cleveland on July 31 in the deal for Ubaldo Jimenez, allowed five runs and seven hits over six innings. He walked six, matching a season-high, and struck out three. Feel free to leave your comments below. Posted in rockies-news | Comments Off

White and Hudson traded zeros until the sixth. Aaron Hill singled and White hit Justin Upton in the middle of the back with a fastball. Montero then singled to right, scoring Hill to make it 2-0. Goldschmidt, in the midst of a 2-for-11 skid, doubled off the wall in right to score Upton and advance Montero to third. White intentionally walked Geraldo Parra to set up the double play one out later. But McDonald singled into the hole at shortstop and Hudson looped a single into left to give Arizona a 5-0 lead. The Rockies scratched out a run in the ninth, loading the bases on a single and two hit batsmen before Putz hit Iannetta with a pitch to force home Troy Tulowitzki. White, making his second start since he was acquired by Colorado from Cleveland on July 31 in the deal for Ubaldo Jimenez, allowed five runs and seven hits over six innings. He walked six, matching a season-high, and struck out three. NOTES: Arizona pitchers lead the majors with 51 hits and 30 RBIs. Iannetta was shaken up briefly in the sixth when Parra bowled him over with a pop-up slide, but remained in the game. Rockies RHP Aaron Cook will be making his 22nd career start against Arizona on Tuesday. Cook beat the Diamondbacks on July 22 in Chase Field. LHP Wade Miley will look for his second straight win in his third career start for the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. | Alex White Makes 2nd Start For Rockies On His 23rd…
By Russ Oates – Senior Editor
Follow , and Like SB Nation Denver on Facebook. Aug 29, 2011 – The Colorado Rockies ride their Sunday win against the Los Angeles Dodgers into Arizona for a three-game series against the Diamondbacks. They’ll have Alex White on the mound for his second start as a Rockies. August 29 is also his 23rd birthday. Can he pick up a win for his birthday gift? White (0-0, 7.50) looked sharp early on, had some laughable defense behind him and then left after the sixth inning with five runs allowed. And this was to the Houston Astros. The Rockies offense kept them in the game and won, 8-6, but White took the no-decision in his first start. Daniel Hudson (13-9, 3.75 ERA) has lost both his starts against the Rockies this season. He is 0-2 with a 5.84 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. In Arizona on July 22, Hudson allowed five runs in 6-1/3 innings, striking out seven in the loss. In August, Hudson is 3-2 with a 3.48 ERA. He just threw 8-2/3 innings of two-run ball against the Washington Nationals. The Diamondbacks enter this series on a six-game winning streak, including a three-game sweep of the Padres. They had dropped six straight games before that, but they still hold a four-game lead over the Giants for the National League West lead. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. MT.
